Ken Hutto founded Polk County Disaster and Relief Helpers, LLC following Hurricane Irma in central Florida. Having seen the devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas, Ken volunteered to assist in an elder care facility but was turned away due to the HIPPA laws that require anyone dealing with patients to be trained and licensed to follow HIPPA protocols. He thought back to the images he had seen of elderly nursing home patients sitting in their wheelchairs with water up to their knees and no one available to help them.

Not one to stand by idly, Ken Hutto realized the need to have volunteers certified prior to an emergency and therefore founded Polk County Disaster and Relief Helpers, LLC to provide the training and licensing needed for those who wish to help in medical facilities that are required to follow HIPPA laws. And he not only founded the organization but is an active volunteer himself. Ken gives back to the community that has given him so much and in particular to the elderly, who are some of our most vulnerable citizens.
